Programme:
W A Mozart (1756-1791) String Quartet No. 15 in D minor, K. 421/417b
Anton Webern (1883 – 1945) Langsamer Satz
Fusionia Quartet: Cypriot Suite
Fusionia Quartet: Marios Ioannou, Savva Lagou (violin), Sorin Alexandru Horlea (viola), Rober Grod (cello). The Fusionia story started with Sorin teaching violin Marios and Savvas in their teenage years, followed by their continuation of studies together in London, experimenting around Fusionia Duo, then their coming back to Cyprus as members of Cyprus Symphony Orchestra beside their teacher. The principal cellist of the same orchestra, Jakub Otcenasek, joined them as a founder member for a year, then Robert, who luckily lives and works in Cyprus, replaced him. In the end of January, 2019 they performed their first concert, despite the fact that Marios was still in the army. The concert was held in Kasteliotissa Medieval Hall Nicosia, where they played Mozart and Mendelssohn. After writing their first arrangement – Cypriot Suite – the quartet performed it in Paphos in Technopolis20 in June 2019 and also performed two concerts, one in the Municipal Theatre Nicosia and the other in Pattichion Municipal Theatre in Limassol, as part of the Kypria International Festival in September 2019. The project was named Viennese Pictures. We played Webern, Y. Papageorgiou and our second arrangement – Strauss Valses.

Prior to his studies, Savvas served in the army for two years as a member of the military band (S.M.E.F). In 2011 he studied for one year at City University of London under Magdalena Filipczak. While he was a student there he gained a place to transfer as a second year student at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance. Throughout his studies, Savvas received the “Ludwig Lebell Scholar” and “Marios Tokas” scholarships for a period of three years from the State Scholarship Foundation of Cyprus in 2009. (I.K.Y). At Trinity Laban he studied with Andrew Sherwood. He also had master classes with Philippe Honore, Rivka Golani, John Crawford, Pieter Schoeman, Zsolt-Tihamer Visontay and Remus Azoitei. After receiving his LTCL in Instrumental/Vocal Teaching, Savvas had been a dedicated teacher for a year starting September 2015, where he returned to Cyprus to prepare for his MA auditions with his mentor Sorin Alexandru Horlea. Raphael Orlando Tate (born February 18, 1984) is an American singer, songwriter, dancer, musician, record producer and bandleader. His debut single “With Every Beat of My Heart” (released in late 2017) peaked at number 25 on Billboard’s Dance Club Songs in America. Raphael grew up in Prince George’s County, Maryland with 10 siblings. Raphael’s musicality originated from his religious family background. He was inspired early on by his father Robert and his mother Patricia who lead worship services in their local network of churches. His father also played saxophone and sang professionally for R&B groups before devoting himself to the church as an assistant pastor. Music performance, evolved into Raphael’s greatest passion. He joined marching band in high school, and learned how to read, write, arrange, and compose music. He started out as a percussionist and continued on to learn the tuba/sousaphone. Raphael excelled rapidly on the tuba. He accepted a music scholarship to attend Morgan State University in Baltimore County, Maryland. During this period, he was featured in the (2002) film Head of State performing with a brass band composed of his colleagues. After college Raphael travelled the world and eventually settled on the island of Cyprus. He lived there for several years while developing his craft and ultimately matured into an all-round producer, singer, and bandleader. Eventually he was discovered by Eve Efrat (owner of Public Relations firm Arieli) and Jason Dauman.

Following the success of Gira d’Italia, we bring our spring concert, Fruhlingserwachen, Awakening of Spring: an evening of German songs and arias sung by the wonderful soprano Anoki Von Arx, and Stelios Georgiou accompanied by the amazing Plotinos Micromatis on the piano. Their goal is to share with the audience these beautiful songs of Germany; songs that are, romantic, fun yet dramatic and unforgettable things which are vital ingredients in life. Anoki and Stelios, so talented, have a vast vocal range they can be judged individually and in duets the two are gifted in their vocal dexterity, with velvet, sensual and gentle yet, deep voices. I have not found anyone who was not ‘blown away’, by the magic felt listening their multi-faceted voices, with duets and solos they cover a range of notes and emotions, from a sweet soaring falsetto to an attitude-laden, long, low, profound sound. Plotinos is equally at home, performing solo recitals, chamber music with singers and instrumentalists and as soloist. His playing dovetails with Anoki and Stelios absolutely perfectly.
